Guest Checkout for Donations

Guest-less Checkout (**New**)

What is Guest-less Checkout?

Guest checkout has been removed entirely from your fundraising pages. All new donors can make a donation without creating a donor account*. After making their donation, the donor will have the option to create a profile if they’d like, but this is completely optional.

Donors are still required to provide their:

  • Name

  • Email address

  • Payment method

You can now also require ALL donors to provide their contact information by setting those fields as required in your Giving Forms.

After completing donations using a new email address (one not already associated with a contact), donors will be given the option to create a donor account. However, as this is optional, it is not required. All donations made using this email address will be associated with the donor regardless of whether they have created an account.*

Donations made as a guest prior to 6/22/2023 will not be retroactively associated with a donor's email address.

*Important Note for Existing Contacts

If a donor is already a contact and is attempting to make a donation using a payment method that requires saving the payment method on file, they will be required to sign in before they can complete their donation. This includes setting up a bank transfer (ACH), creating a monthly gift, and registering for Round-Ups. If the donor does not remember their password, they will need to use the forgot password option to reset their password.

How Guest-less Donors Appear in Your Dashboard

On or after 6/22/2023, donors who checkout without creating a profile on their own will have a profile automatically created on their behalf. These donors will appear in your Saved Contacts just like donors who have created a profile on their own. Within your Harness Dashboard, you will be able to click on the donor's name and a slide-out contact card will appear on the right. You will also be able to access their donor profile using the View as Donor tool.


Guest Checkout (Discontinued)

What Was Guest Checkout?

Prior to 6/22/2023, donors making a one-time donation had the option to check out as a "Guest" by proactively and intentionally de-selecting the "Save details for faster checkouts" checkbox on your fundraising form.

The purpose of "guest checkout" for one-time donors was to give them the ability to check out quickly & easily, requiring as little information as possible.

If a donor was to do this, they would only have been required to provide their:

  • Name

  • Email address

  • Payment method

**We could not force donors to provide phone numbers or addresses after they've proactively/intentionally opted out of creating an account/providing this information from the beginning.

How Guest Donors Appear in Your Dashboard

You can still view & download guest checkout donors' names and email addresses and donation history from your Donations report. Within your Admin Dashboard, you'll notice when you click on a guest checkout donor's name, no slide-out contact card will appear on the right. These donors will also not appear as Saved Contacts since they have not created an account.*
