Overview of all fees associated with using Harness.

Fees You Will See

Stripe Processing Fees

  • Standard = 2.9% + $.30 each transaction (Visa, MC, etc.)

  • Discount = 2.2% + $.30 each transaction (Visa, MC, etc.)

  • AmEx = 3.5%
    ​Harness cannot identify the card type prior to the donation being made so the suggested cover fee rate will be either the Standard or Discount rate for Visa/MC

  • ACH (Bank Transfer) = 0.8% or $5.00, whichever is lesser (fee is capped at $5.00)

  • Monthly Subscriptions/Donations = the fees above + 0.7%

Stripe charges a 0.7% fee (formerly a 0.5% fee) for every recurring charge processed on the account (in addition to the processing fees charged separately). Harness includes this fee in the total fee coverage option for monthly gifts in the Harness checkout experience. This fee may appear on your Payout report listed as Billing - Subscription Fee or Billing - Usage Fee.

  • Harness Platform = 1.5%

Platform fees for ACH are your plan's platform fee or $100, whichever is lesser. Platform fees for discontinued plans are still in effect.

  • Harness + Stripe Standard Rate = 4.4% + $.30 (5% if AmEx)

  • Harness + Stripe Discount Rate = 3.7% + $.30 (5% if AmEx)

  • Harness + Stripe ACH Rate = up to 2.3% (Stripe ACH fee 0.8% or $5 cap)

  • Harness + Stripe ACH Rate + Monthly gift = up to 4.3% (Stripe ACH fee 0.8% or $5 cap)

Troubleshooting

If you're experiencing fee discrepancies in your report, let's take a look at these elements:

  • Did the donor pay with an AmEx?
    AmEx charges 3.5% (instead of 2.2% or 2.9% + $.30) & our system cannot recognize and auto-adjust the rate to 3.5% for AmEx cards

  • Is the donation recurring (monthly)?
    Stripe charges an additional 0.7% that they actually charge you separately from the individual donation/transaction & our system does account for this

  • Have you received Stripe's non-profit discount & shared with Harness that you have?
    Stripe offers a discount but does not inform Harness when you've been approved for it. Our platform by default recommends donors cover Stripe's standard rate until you let us know you've been approved for the discount rate.

  • Do you have a special pricing arrangement with Stripe that differs from their standard rates?
    Our platform can only reflect Stripe's standard or non-profit discount rate.

  • Stripe made an error in the fees they charged you.
